Art Supplies For Acrylic Class
Acrylic Paints and Mediums Brands I recommend:
Art Advantage (children’s class)
Winsos & Newton, or Galeria (for beginning students)
M.Graham
Liquitex, Golden and Matisse (for advance students)
Note; Matisse is a brand of acrylic paint made in Australia for professionals. I use it for many projects and love it. However, I don't recommend it for students because of the expense.
Colors:
Titanium White large tube.
Cobalt Blue
Phthalo Blue
Cadmium Red Medium
Alizarin Crimson or Permanent Rose
Cadmium Yellow Medium
Yellow Ocher
Burnt Sienna
Burnt Umber
Sap Green
Payne's Gray ( I like to use this color in place of black )
Many other colors can be added as student and paintings progress.
Painting supports:
Watercolor paper 140 lb
Watercolor paper 300 lb
Canvas board
Stretched canvas
The supports will depend on the style of painting the student wishes to do.
Liquitex Mediums
Gloss medium & varnish
Matte medium
Flow aid or a drying retarder
Brushes (not bristle):
Princeton (green handle) Filbert #4, Bright # 2, Round #2/0
Or Soft-Grip (long handle) synthetic (white or yellow) Bright #2 and #8
Or Soft-Grip (short handle) Round #2, Filbert #10, Short Shader #12
1 inch wash (watercolor brush) This brush is nice to have but not used much
Other Supplies:
Palette
There are many palettes available for acrylic painters. Some are "Stay Wet" palettes that help you save your paint. If you are on a tight budget you can use a plastic, glass or ceramic plate. All three will wash up nicely after use.
Gesso (any brand, students choice) I use gesso for various techniques.
Sea Sponge
